🎶 Featured Masterworks

The concert will showcase two powerful and contrasting cornerstone works for strings, alongside pieces by other renowned composers:

Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis by Ralph Vaughan Williams

  • This deeply spiritual and majestic work is considered a masterpiece of English string music.
  • It’s composed for a fascinating three-part structure: a full string orchestra, a smaller string orchestra, and a solo string quartet.
  • Vaughan Williams based the Fantasia on a haunting melody written by the 16th-century English composer Thomas Tallis. The music masterfully blends Renaissance style with English folk influences, creating a mystical and serene sonic world.

Adagio in G minor for Strings and Organ by Tomasso Albinoni (attributed)

  • This famous, slow, and solemn piece is widely recognized and frequently used in films and television for its moving, ethereal beauty.
  • The work is, however, surrounded by an intriguing mystery! It was actually composed in the mid-20th century by musicologist Remo Giazotto, who claimed to have reconstructed it from a small manuscript fragment of an 18th-century Albinoni composition. Whether it’s truly Albinoni or a brilliant neo-Baroque creation, its profound effect remains undisputed.

And More!

The program will also feature pieces by beloved composers Mozart, John Williams, and Mendelssohn. Chamber music, which is often called the “music of friends,” thrives in intimate settings, allowing you to hear each instrument with incredible clarity and experience a true musical “conversation”.
