3rd Annual Children’s Concert
Saturday, January 31st | 2:00 PM | Viewmont Auditorium
Step into a world of spells, sorcery, and unforgettable music at our 3rd Annual Children’s Concert: Melodies of Magic! This enchanting afternoon is designed especially for families and young listeners, but truly promises something delightful for “children” of all ages.
From mischievous magic to heroic themes and dazzling operatic showpieces, this concert brings together some of the most beloved musical moments inspired by fantasy, fairy tales, and wizardry. Along the way, we’ll share the stories behind the music, helping audiences discover how composers use sound to bring magical worlds to life.

✨ Featured Music & Stories
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice – Paul Dukas
The centerpiece of our concert, this symphonic poem tells the tale of a young apprentice who tries to use magic he doesn’t fully understand—with chaotic results. Many will recognize it from Disney’s Fantasia, where Mickey Mouse famously plays the apprentice. The music perfectly captures both the humor and drama of magic gone wrong.
Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter – John Williams
Instantly recognizable, this haunting and whimsical theme introduces the magical world of Hogwarts. With shimmering celesta and sweeping strings, Williams created one of the most iconic fantasy themes of all time.
Beauty and the Beast – Alan Menken
A timeless story brought to life through music, this beloved Disney classic reminds us that true magic lies in kindness and transformation. Expect familiar melodies that will have both kids and adults smiling.
Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz – Harold Arlen
Follow the yellow brick road with this unforgettable song that represents hope, dreams, and the desire for adventure beyond the familiar.
The Queen of the Night Aria – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
One of the most famous (and challenging!) arias ever written, this dazzling piece from The Magic Flute shows opera at its most dramatic. With lightning-fast notes and soaring high pitches, it’s a thrilling example of musical “magic” in action.
“Uranus: The Magician” from The Planets – Gustav Holst
Holst’s powerful orchestral work depicts the mysterious planet Uranus as a grand cosmic magician. The music is bold, playful, and full of surprises—perfect for our magical theme.
